Birch Hill Dog Rescue

A new brand to help find dogs a forever home

The challenge

Birch Hill Dog Rescue first came to us for a pro-bono website project, and our initial onboarding discovered their branding was very understated and almost non-existent. This contributed to an overall tone that felt sombre, so we got to work refreshing the charity’s brand into a fresher, brighter and cohesive state.

Aligning Birch Hill’s branding with their goals

As a dog rescue, they needed a revamped brand that reflected more friendly tones and one that was modern. The task initially was to refresh their branding through a new website design that they could roll out across social channels and promotional materials. This included new fonts, an expanded colour palette, updated content, fresh imagery and bespoke illustrations.

We started with a big brain dump discussing their goals and what they needed from a new website and brand.

Our competitor research discovered that other charities’ visuals were much brighter, more engaging and inviting in comparison.

Our design team created new illustrations based on dogs usually found in rescues, integrated happier imagery, added more striking fonts and brought much needed personality to the brand with an expanded colour palette to complement the original blue.

We also provided them with full logo assets, a small style guide and some example social posts.

Results of our branding

Since the new website and branding launched, Birch Hill Dog Rescue has seen more exposure from users looking to adopt and sponsor a pet dog. Each dog’s profile is now full of personality, ways to support the charity have been made clearer and their branding now reflects the friendlier, warmer tone they needed.

Words from our lead designer:

“I really enjoyed this project. It was incredibly rewarding to bring new life to a 30-year-old dog rescue charity. I especially loved creating the custom illustrations and seeing the brand come together. As huge dog lovers here at Sherbet Donkey, with our own crew of pups, being able to play even a small part in helping these wonderful dogs find new homes felt amazing.”
