Birch Hill Dog Rescue: A new website to find dogs a home

The Challenge

We were beyond thrilled when we got the opportunity to develop a brand-new website for Birch Hill Dog Rescue, a Kidderminster-based charity. Our Managing Director, Loki, has been a supporter of the charity for some time and decided we take on this website project for free.

Birch Hill Dog Rescue needed a website that supported an easy user journey and a simple, fast platform that would scale as the client lists more dogs, while also maintaining security.

A dog-friendly website development

Birch Hill Dog Rescue has been caring for dogs and finding them homes since 1996. While their love and dedication for man and woman’s best friend never faltered, their website was difficult to navigate for both the client and public users, security wasn’t as strong as it should have been, and their branding was highly inconsistent.

We began the website development with a collaborative discussion on what Birch Hill wanted out of their new website, discussing their current pain points like slow speeds and difficulty adding pictures and content for dogs, as well as how a revamp of their existing brand visuals would be better for adoption and sponsorship enquiries.

After competitor research and presenting several new designs that showcased a more positive and brighter brand experience, one of our Senior Full Stack Developers got to work building the pages.

The site was built using WordPress and Beaver Builder to keep the interface simple and user-friendly for the client and was made faster and more secure thanks to minimal plugin usage and custom code wrapped in security-focused functions.

User experience (UX) was improved with a new navigation bar to direct users to relevant category pages, carousels with dog pictures and information, and CTAs were made clearer to direct people towards adoption forms and the variety of services offered.

The results: A cleaner, brand-focused website

We’re so happy and proud to see how a new website has helped home many of the dogs at Birch Hill. Gone are the sombre, stock images and inconsistent colour schemes and fonts. Slow loading speeds are a thing of the past and users now have a clear direction to get in touch and organise a meeting with their potential new pet dog.

Hear from our senior developer:

“Working on the Birch Hill Dog Rescue website allowed me to combine clean design with secure, scalable development. I focused on building a fast, easy-to-manage platform that empowers the client to update content confidently without compromising performance or security.”
